Hi. Thanks for checking out my new website! I am Mary – founder and prior owner of The Pan Handler LLC, and a vintage cast iron cookware enthusiast. I started the business and website from scratch while working a full-time job, and eventually the business became so busy that it was a full-time job in itself. I retired from my primary job and devoted myself to the business. Sales were brisk, and I found that I did not have time to continue writing and blogging as much as I would have liked; the business end of the business consumed just about all of my time and then some.
One beautiful summer weekend in 2016, I was sailing with friends and away from my computer and cell phone. It was glorious to have the chance to relax. I realized that I wanted to really retire – to step back and stop and smell the roses more than I could while running the business. I realized that what I really loved was not the “sales” end of the business, but the “learning” and “sharing” part – i.e. the blog (my cast iron blog posts on the site run from 2012 to 2017, and can be found in the blog archives of the business, starting here). I sold the business on January 1, 2017.
After selling the business, I took a break of sorts, but still blogged about vintage and antique cast iron cookware at vintagecast-iron.com a bit in 2017. I love vintage cast iron cookware, love thinking about where it has been, what it has cooked, and who used it then and who uses it now. I love to learn all about these old pieces of American history, and to share information with other cast iron enthusiasts. I enjoy writing as well, so blogging is a natural fit for me and a chance to share with others what I have learned.
