Learn how you can search to find “sold” prices for vintage and antique cast iron.
I am always asked, “how much is this worth?” It’s hard to answer, as value is very subjective. Condition, scarcity, precise markings, manufacturer, condition..condition…condition…all play a part.
I know it is easier to just ask someone “what is this worth?” but if you ask 100 people you will get 100 different answers. Some will be educated answers, some will be guesses. Some estimates will be high, and some will be low.
Finding “Sold” Prices on eBay
One way to determine the current “value” of a piece is to do a search for “sold” items on eBay. Look for pieces that are in a similar condition to yours, with the same precise markings by the same manufacturer (markings matter!) To me, “value” (aside from the priceless nature of family heirloom pieces) is what the market will bear – i.e. what a buyer is willing to pay for a piece.
I made a little video tutorial to help you learn how to do your own search on eBay to find sold prices of pieces. Check it out, and learn for yourself what your piece might be worth!
