Leigh Ann W. of Greensboro North Carolina asked:
Are there [cast iron] auctions -other than eBay- that you can participate in online? (Without actually being there). I never seem to see any of these in my area.
Yes, there are.
If you do a google search for “cast iron auction” you will likely find some upcoming auctions that include cast iron cookware. You may find auctions that are in-person only, online only, and auctions that run simultaneously in-person and online. There are a number of sites that run auctions online; search those sites for “cast iron,” and see what pops up!
Before you jump in and bid, however, as I said in my blog posts about cast iron auctions (Learn From My Mistakes and Tips and Considerations), read all of the terms and conditions of any auction before you bid, and be sure to factor in all expenses (buyer’s premium, shipping costs, tax) before you bid! Remember that when you bid online at an auction, you are buying “as is where is,” without an opportunity to view the piece in person – buyer beware!
Here are a few sites to check out:
- Shop Goodwill (similar to eBay)
- Proxibid
- AuctionZip
- Live Auctioneers
- Invaluable
- HiBid
- Caring Transitions Online Estate Sales
There may also be cast iron auction sale groups on Facebook, but I’m unfamiliar with them. A bit of searching will probably help you find some.
Readers, if there are others sites that you think I should add, please comment below or contact me and let me know.
Again, be sure you carefully read all of the terms and conditions of the auction before you bid!
